Behind the Candelabra

It's been busy and exciting times recently at the studio! After successfully winning a recent pitch, it's been all hands to the deck at Big Picture Studio, but we can finally announce that we're proud to have designed the domestic marketing campaign for Behind the Candelabra. Watch the great new trailer for Steven Soderbergh's Liberace biopic starring Matt Damon and Michael Douglas.

If you follow Big Picture Studio on Facebook you'll be familiar with our Fun Film Fact Friday posts, if not follow us on Facebook for your film FFFFACT each week.

FFFFACT: Man of Steel a.k.a Superman had a gun made of Kryptonite. The first time Kryptonite was ever mentioned, was in 1940, when merchandisers decided to sell a toy gun called the "KRYPTO-RAYGUN". Why would Superman ever need a gun?

Supers / Identities

Once again it's all about Superhero's in the cinema folks. Retro Iron Man, Hulk & Fantastic Four identity concepts.

Roy Batty / Blade Runner

With the announcement that British director Sir Ridley Scott is to make a new instalment of his 1982 cult sci-fi Blade Runner, I decided to watch it last night for the first time in a while. Like a good bottle of wine Syd Mead’s production design just keeps getting better with age. Future (Perfect) an upcoming exhibition at BravinLee Programs in New York is showcasing the work of Concept designer Syd Mead. So, inspired by the film I decided to paint the leader of the replicants ‘Roy Batty’ played by Rutger Hauer – Great Sci-Fi stuff!

John Carter book cover design

Since launching Big Picture Studio in June my focus has been on designing film advertising campaigns and we've been snowed under! So, it's been quite some time since I've been in a position to design for myself and post anything new on my personal blog. As excitement builds for Andrew Stanton's adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' 'John Carter of Mars' and inspired by the latest movie trailer which features the work of Ryan Church and Iain McCaig, I decided to design myself a retro 'John Carter of Mars' book cover with the few hours I had spare this afternoon - Good fun too.

Speed painting

With the recent launch of Big Picture Studio  and the current Musketeers and Ides of March campaigns it hasn't left me much time to paint. As practice I started this speed painting the beginning of the week in my downtime - not sure if I can call it a speed painting really?

Pixar toy packaging concepts - The Incredibles

I designed these two packaging concepts for 'The Incredibles' action figures back in 2008, as the Lou Romano's production design for the movie was so iconic I think these designs have stood the test of time quite well - Cheers Lou!
