Lasso Painting No.1

Golden Gate by day

Lasso Painting

I've always had an appreciation for the Looney Tunes background artists of the 40s and 50s, One artist who springs to mind  is Paul Julian. Julian's use of colour and  perspective resulted in a truly cinematic and engaging stage for characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck Porky Pig and many others.

So, what's that got to do with Lasso Painting? A recent summer trip to California I took with my wife seems to be inspiring a series of paintings based on the 1000s of photos we took between us. I enjoy painting the detailed and generally more time consuming illustrations, but for practice I've decided to get into the habit of quickly illustrating less complicated backgrounds/characters using only the Lasso tool and a single brush in Photoshop. Stay tuned for 'Lasso Paintings'

Dirt Racer

This Key fame painting is part of a series of designs I'm currently working on. The idea being the cars compete in an endurance dirt race where anything goes - the last car standing wins. The 'Hero' car featured is based on a 1966 Ford Mustang, I'll be posting developed ideas soon so stay tuned...

Mr. Toad

Following the theme of Off Roaders, this painting was specifically inspired by a shot my wife took in San Francisco of 'Mr. Toad's Tour bus' and the 7hr drive to Vegas - Photoshop

GO FOR IT!

I've always been fascinated by cars and speed ever since my Uncle bought a radio controlled Tamiya Sand Scorcher 2WD Off-Road Racer back from art college some 30 years ago! Yes, it's been that long Jeff!

The Red Planet

I painted this landscape after taking a helicopter ride into the Grand Canyon during our American road trip.

Bird's eye view

I started this painting on my iphone flying to California this summer but never got around to posting it - later completed in Photoshop.
