Stealth Angels - Character design
The initial idea was to redesign the 70s hit TV show 'Charlie's Angels' by applying a 'cybertech' approach. However, I actually ran out of time and only managed 2 of the 3 characters... I'll be back with the other soon!

Just incase you guys didn't make it to my site here is the legend that is 'El Macho'! ZBrush & Photoshop

EL Macho logo
Following a quick cartoon character illustration I recently sketched in Photoshop of a Mexican Wrestler called 'El Macho'. I decided to develop the character further by designing his logo in the form of a brightly coloured Wrestlers belt using a bespoke typeface designed by yours truly. The finished character design can found on my website:

The Incredible Hulk
Sticking to the plan of developing my skills in ZBrush, here's a character sculpt of everyone's favourite superhero 'The Incredible Hulk'. The aim was to capture the characteristics of the 2D comic illustrations in 3D without becoming too photo realistic.

ThunderCats - continued...
Before I start the paint work 3 ZBrush variations of Panthro sculpt. I've purposely ignored the super fine detailing like skin pores and creases, my focus is on the shape and form for this study.
ThunderCats - Ho!
Hadn't designed a character in some time and really needed to get some hours under my belt with ZBrush, I decided to redesign Panthro form the 90s animated TV series ThunderCats. Here are my initial Photoshop sketches, reference and ZBrush sculpt.

Left hanging
A photograph a good friend of mine recently took at the Fiona Banner exhibition in the Tate Britain inspired me to paint this image. As a starting point I came up with a typical scenario of our 'hero' pilot being locked in a deadly air combat finale with the stories 'villain'. In brief, the back story of our hero's aggressive and reckless nature has unintentionally cost the life of his wingman during an ill-fated combat mission. The guilt and anger he feels for the loss of his wingman has become evident through his own irresponsibleness towards his life - he looses his faith. The hero eventually overcomes and defeats the enemy force only for his fighter to sustain heavy damage in the process. Loosing altitude and descending towards the ground our hero attempts to eject but a systems malfunction occurs trapping him in the cockpit, the only option left is to reverse thrust and deploy the braking parachutes. Preparing for impact he crashes through the roof of a church only to be saved by the planes parachutes becoming entangled amongst roof joists, stopping the jet just inches away from a certain death. His faith is restored.

Lasso Painting
I've always had an appreciation for the Looney Tunes background artists of the 40s and 50s, One artist who springs to mind is Paul Julian. Julian's use of colour and perspective resulted in a truly cinematic and engaging stage for characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck Porky Pig and many others.
So, what's that got to do with Lasso Painting? A recent summer trip to California I took with my wife seems to be inspiring a series of paintings based on the 1000s of photos we took between us. I enjoy painting the detailed and generally more time consuming illustrations, but for practice I've decided to get into the habit of quickly illustrating less complicated backgrounds/characters using only the Lasso tool and a single brush in Photoshop. Stay tuned for 'Lasso Paintings'

Dirt Racer
This Key fame painting is part of a series of designs I'm currently working on. The idea being the cars compete in an endurance dirt race where anything goes - the last car standing wins. The 'Hero' car featured is based on a 1966 Ford Mustang, I'll be posting developed ideas soon so stay tuned...

GO FOR IT!
I've always been fascinated by cars and speed ever since my Uncle bought a radio controlled Tamiya Sand Scorcher 2WD Off-Road Racer back from art college some 30 years ago! Yes, it's been that long Jeff!
