John Carter book cover design
Since launching Big Picture Studio in June my focus has been on designing film advertising campaigns and we've been snowed under! So, it's been quite some time since I've been in a position to design for myself and post anything new on my personal blog. As excitement builds for Andrew Stanton's adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' 'John Carter of Mars' and inspired by the latest movie trailer which features the work of Ryan Church and Iain McCaig, I decided to design myself a retro 'John Carter of Mars' book cover with the few hours I had spare this afternoon - Good fun too.

Speed painting
With the recent launch of Big Picture Studio and the current Musketeers and Ides of March campaigns it hasn't left me much time to paint. As practice I started this speed painting the beginning of the week in my downtime - not sure if I can call it a speed painting really?

Monster of the day
Monster of the day is a new challenge I've set myself, as the title suggests I plan to sketch, paint or sculpt a monster each day to keep the skills sharp. So, without further ado introducing the 'Mouthless alien'. ZBrush sculpt

Pixar toy packaging concepts - The Incredibles
I designed these two packaging concepts for 'The Incredibles' action figures back in 2008, as the Lou Romano's production design for the movie was so iconic I think these designs have stood the test of time quite well - Cheers Lou!

BOOM
Having spent the last 4 months working on Disney's Gnomeo & Juliet's advertising campaign it hasn't left me a great amount of time to paint, until now...
I've always been fascinated by all things mechanical, so as part of a personal project and to get a few hours practise under my belt this is what I came up with - ROBOTS!

Gnomeo & Juliet - Press ads
Continuing to shamelessly plug my artwork I stumbled across these press ads recently. I originally designed the Family (left), Nanette (middle) and the Benny (right) as 6 Sheets specifically for UK and Ireland.

Gnomeo & Juliet - Campaign design
Entertainment One is a leading international entertainment company specialising in production and distribution of film and television content across all media. My involvement with the film began in October 2010 when I was tasked with designing and producing the domestic marketing campaign for the latest Disney blockbuster 'Gnomeo & Juliet'.
With the campaign requiring strong family appeal, the creative executions were designed to introduce the audience to each of the lead characters. The messaging and imagery both focused on capturing the personalities of each character and reflecting the broad comedy appeal of the film.
Following the approved art direction each character was specifically posed to communicate the messaging, environments were designed/painted in the established CG style to ensure continuity throughout the campaign and a bold complimentary typeface was chosen to provide an eye-catching platform to deliver the tag lines.
The project involved initial sketch concepts followed by final artwork across all forms of media: 96, 48, 24, 12, 6 sheet ads, T-sides (bus), in-cinema displays, banners, 3D glasses recycling bins, popcorn packaging and installs for Odeon, Vue and Empire cinemas.
The campaign has recently launched in both UK and Ireland and looks to guarantee great exposure for the film as well as featuring on BBC Breakfast and The Graham Norton Show.
Stay tuned for further examples!
